You want to take cost out of your organization, and you need to do at least some of it quickly, but without reducing or impacting your workforce.
When tasked with cost take out, most organizations tend to hit the easy button and simply cut the size of their workforce.
While a quick solution, there are many ramifications to doing this, not in the least, the lost productivity that can offset your savings. And odds are, a year or two from now your workforce will magically be at or beyond where it is today.
There are 3 general ways to take significant cost out of your organization:
- Workforce Reduction and/or workforce arbitrage by moving positions offshore to a lower cost jurisdiction
- Vendor (expense) Cost Reduction
- Process & Structural Optimization – things like standardization, consolidation and optimization of how you do work, and where you do work
